A search and rescue operation is underway after an Indian-flagged mechanized sailing vessel, Virat 1, reportedly encountered a serious incident off the coast of Oman, according to the Indian Embassy in Muscat.
The vessel was carrying 14 Indian crew members when it began experiencing distress approximately 80 nautical miles east of Ras Al Hadd, Oman, on the morning of June 14, 2026.

United States Navy support units operating in the area.
A U.S. Navy P-8 maritime patrol aircraft reportedly assisted by dropping a life raft near the vessel and monitoring evacuation efforts.
A nearby merchant ship, MV Jabal Ali 9, also helped provide surface assistance during the emergency response.

The incident occurred in a strategically important maritime corridor near the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that has recently seen heightened tensions and disruptions due to regional security concerns.
Rescue teams are still working to determine the cause of the incident and to ensure the safe recovery of all crew members aboard the Virat 1.
