Five people have been killed and several others injured after a shooting at a youth welfare centre in the northern German city of Stade, police have confirmed.
Authorities said two suspects were arrested following the attack on Monday, with one believed to be the suspected shooter. The motive behind the incident remains unclear.
Police described the incident as a multiple-victim homicide at the facility, adding that emergency services launched a major operation on Dankersstrasse, south of the city centre.
Residents were advised to avoid the area and follow instructions from emergency authorities as investigations continue.
Stade, located about 40 kilometres west of Hamburg, is a city in northern Germany with a population of around half a million people.
