The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kaduna State Command, says it has seized 12,724.652 kilogrammes of various illicit drugs and arrested 1,107 suspects between June 2025 and June 2026.
The Kaduna State Commander of the NDLEA, CN Maijama’a Muhammad, disclosed this on Monday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna.
Muhammad said the seizures reflected the command’s continued efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent harmful substances from reaching communities.
The seized substances included 9,091.974kg of cannabis sativa, 0.004kg of heroin, 0.315kg of cocaine, 2.949kg of methamphetamine, 301.852kg of tramadol, and 3,345.558kg of other psychotropic substances.
He explained that the command intensified intelligence operations, surveillance, and enforcement activities across the state, leading to the arrest of 1,107 suspects linked to drug-related offences.
“Out of the suspects arrested, 1,075 were male while 32 were female,” he said.
The commander added that 297 suspects were taken to court during the period, while 251 convictions were secured through collaboration with the judiciary.
He noted that the convictions showed the agency’s determination to ensure that drug offenders face justice and serve as a warning to others involved in illegal activities.
On rehabilitation efforts, Muhammad said 94 people were admitted into treatment programmes, including 88 males and six females, while 78 individuals successfully completed rehabilitation.
He added that 1,458 people received counselling and brief interventions as part of efforts to reduce drug abuse across Kaduna State.
According to him, anti-drug awareness campaigns were carried out among students, youths, workers, community leaders, and religious organisations.
The NDLEA commander also revealed that the agency dismantled 662 drug joints through intelligence gathering, community support, and sustained operations.
He urged parents, schools, community leaders, the media, and young people to continue supporting the fight against drug abuse, stressing that tackling illicit drugs requires collective efforts.
“The fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is a shared responsibility. Government agencies alone cannot win this battle,” Muhammad said.
He reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to protecting communities through prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, enforcement, and partnerships with stakeholders.
