The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intervene urgently following renewed communal violence in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State that left at least five people dead and displaced more than 100 residents.
Lawmakers made the appeal during a plenary session after a motion was presented highlighting the latest clash between the Karinjo and Wurkun communities, which erupted on May 29, 2026. The violence also resulted in injuries, destruction of homes, farmlands, and livestock.
The motion, sponsored by Mohammed Audu, warned that the repeated clashes have worsened an already fragile security situation in the region, where residents also face threats from armed criminal groups operating across border areas linking Taraba with neighbouring states.
He noted that many affected communities, including Mutun Daya, Bambur Zailani, Didango, Andami, and Mayo-Gauri, have been severely impacted, with displaced families forced into makeshift shelters without access to basic necessities such as clean water and healthcare.
According to lawmakers, the destruction of farms and livestock has deepened economic hardship, as most residents depend on agriculture for survival. Over 100 people have reportedly been forced from their homes, raising concerns over worsening humanitarian conditions.
The House stressed that recurring violence in the area threatens peace and stability in Taraba State and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to restore order and prevent further attacks.
It also called on the Federal Government and humanitarian organizations to provide emergency relief to displaced persons and support long-term peace-building initiatives to address the root causes of the conflict.
Members emphasized that without decisive intervention, the situation could escalate further, worsening displacement, hunger, and insecurity in affected communities across the region.
