The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced three Nigerians to prison terms for offences connected to Boko Haram activities during the ongoing terrorism trials.
A 55-year-old farmer from Borno State, Ali Mustapha, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for failing to disclose information about Boko Haram operations in his community. The court considered his claim that there were no security agencies nearby to report the activities but still found him guilty.
Another convict, Isa Isiaka, a father of 11 children, received a 20-year prison sentence for not providing information that could have helped security agencies arrest Boko Haram members.
The court also jailed Maiduguri businessman Umar Bashir for 20 years after he admitted using his bank account to facilitate a N5 million transaction linked to a Boko Haram member.
The sentences were delivered as part of the government’s mass terrorism trials involving hundreds of suspects at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, said the trials demonstrate the government’s commitment to fighting insecurity.
