A Sokoto State High Court has sentenced three men, including a Nigerien national, to death by hanging after finding them guilty of terrorism and illegal arms trafficking.
The convicts — Yusuf Muhammad (also known as Sallau), Jabbi Alhaji Yalle, and Kabiru Muhammad — were arrested on June 13, 2025, by the Department of State Services (DSS) Counter-Terrorism Unit over allegations involving cross-border crimes, arms smuggling, and terrorism.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Bello ruled that the three defendants were guilty of the charges brought against them and ordered that they be executed by hanging. The court also directed that all recovered cash exhibits be forfeited to the Federal Government.
The ruling in Sokoto comes shortly after a Federal High Court in Katsina sentenced a female arms courier, Hauwa’u Mukhtar, to death after she was arrested by the DSS while allegedly transporting 438 rounds of ammunition to a suspected bandit leader.
Earlier, four suspects — Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, and Abdulhaleem Idris — were sentenced to death by a Federal High Court in Abuja over their involvement in attacks that reportedly killed more than 40 worshippers in Owo, Ondo State.
A Kogi State High Court sitting in Lokoja also recently sentenced Jibrin Halilu to death by hanging after he was convicted for conspiracy, kidnapping, and the murder of a hotel owner in Obajana, Kogi State.
