The Borno State Government has successfully reintegrated 720 former insurgents into their communities after they completed a comprehensive deradicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration programme.
The group, classified as low-risk participants, formed the ninth batch of beneficiaries under the state's rehabilitation initiative. Before their release, the former fighters took an oath on the Holy Quran, pledging to remain peaceful and law-abiding citizens.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Hajj Camp in Maiduguri on Friday, Special Adviser on Security to Governor Ishaq Abdullahi said the programme continues to play a key role in efforts to restore lasting peace across the North-East.
According to him, the initiative reflects the government's commitment to combining military operations with non-violent strategies aimed at reducing extremism, rebuilding communities and encouraging reconciliation.
Officials described the programme as an important component of Borno State's broader counter-insurgency efforts, helping former combatants transition back into civilian life while supporting long-term stability in the region.
The latest reintegration exercise marks another step in the state's ongoing campaign to address the root causes of insurgency and promote sustainable peace in communities affected by years of conflict.
