Fear and tension have gripped residents of Borno State after suspected Boko Haram militants abducted 13 travellers, including women and a seven-month-old baby, along the Biu–Damaturu highway near the Kamuya axis.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 15, 2026, when armed men intercepted two vehicles carrying passengers and forced them to an unknown location.
Family members of the victims say they have been left in anguish, with no clear updates on the whereabouts or condition of their loved ones. In a statement released by Mallam Hassan Yati on behalf of the families, they appealed to the Federal Government, Borno State authorities, and security agencies to urgently intensify rescue efforts.
The families described the situation as deeply traumatic, noting that women and children were among those taken, including the infant, whose case has heightened emotional distress.
They said uncertainty and lack of communication have worsened their suffering, as days continue to pass without progress in rescue operations.
Residents also lamented the poor condition of the Buni Gari–Kamuya–Buratai–Biu road, describing it as dangerous and vulnerable to repeated attacks due to its state of disrepair.
The families urged security agencies, humanitarian groups, and Nigerians at large to support efforts aimed at securing the safe return of the victims, expressing hope that they can still be rescued alive.
