Indian actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has officially been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following the electoral success of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, where Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay and his nine-member cabinet.
Several prominent figures attended the ceremony, including Rahul Gandhi and personalities from the Tamil film industry.
Vijay’s TVK party secured 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly during last month’s elections. After days of negotiations, he gained the support of lawmakers from Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M), and IUML, helping his alliance cross the majority mark with 120 MLAs.
The new administration marks a historic political shift, becoming Tamil Nadu’s first government in nearly six decades not led by either the DMK or AIADMK parties.
