The Vigilante Group of Nigeria has rescued 13 people who were kidnapped while travelling from Cross River State to Abuja, following a coordinated operation in Kogi State.
According to officials, the victims were abducted on April 26 in the Egume area near Anyigba while heading to the Federal Capital Territory for a programme.
The rescue mission was carried out in the early hours of May 9 by the Vigilante Group of Nigeria’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, with support from the Kogi State vigilante command and the Nigeria Police Force.
Authorities said the victims had spent nearly two weeks in captivity before they were freed during the operation led by Suleiman Abiodun, also known as “Evil Spirit.”
The rescued individuals included men and women from different parts of Cross River State. Security officials did not confirm whether any suspects were arrested or if ransom payments were made before the victims regained freedom.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over rising kidnapping cases along highways and rural communities in Kogi State and other parts of Nigeria, prompting intensified security operations by local vigilantes and law enforcement agencies.
