The United Nations has revealed that at least 372 Afghan civilians were killed and 397 others injured during cross-border clashes between Taliban forces and the Pakistani military in the first three months of 2026.
According to a report released by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), more than half of the deaths resulted from air raids targeting a drug rehabilitation facility in Kabul.
The report stated that the victims included 13 women, 46 children, and 313 men, marking one of the deadliest periods recorded by the UN in Afghanistan since 2011.
Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have intensified since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Taliban government of harbouring fighters linked to the Pakistan Taliban (TTP), an allegation Kabul strongly denies.
UNAMA urged both sides to respect international humanitarian law and avoid attacks on civilian areas, hospitals, and public facilities.
The report added that most civilian casualties were caused by air strikes, while others resulted from cross-border shelling and isolated attacks during the ongoing conflict.
