Secret Service Neutralizes Armed Suspect in Shooting Near White House.

A man suspected of carrying a firearm was shot and wounded by the United States Secret Service near the White House, prompting a brief security lockdown in the area.

According to officials, plainclothes agents first identified the individual as suspicious and alerted backup. When uniformed officers approached, the suspect attempted to flee and allegedly opened fire, leading agents to return fire and injure him. He was later transported to a hospital, and a weapon was recovered at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that a child was also struck during the exchange. The injuries were reported as non-life-threatening, and investigators believe the bullet may have come from the suspect.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department. Officials have not yet determined whether the suspect was targeting any specific individual.

The shooting comes amid heightened security concerns following a recent alleged assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump during a high-profile event in April. However, authorities stated there is no evidence linking the latest suspect to that incident or to any motorcade movements in the area.
