More than 860,000 international pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage as authorities intensify preparations for one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
According to Hajj and Umrah Minister Tawfiq Al Rabiah, most pilgrims entered the kingdom by air, while thousands also arrived through land crossings and sea ports.
Saudi officials said the government has expanded transport, accommodation, and digital services to improve the pilgrimage experience under the country’s Vision 2030 programme. Authorities noted that more than 100 initiatives have been launched to support pilgrims during this year’s Hajj season.
The Nusuk digital platform, which provides Hajj-related services and bookings, now offers more than 130 online services for pilgrims from over 120 countries. Officials also highlighted the “Hajj Without Luggage” programme, designed to speed up airport procedures by transporting pilgrims’ baggage directly to their residences.
Infrastructure upgrades have also been introduced in the holy city of Mecca and surrounding pilgrimage sites, including expanded shaded areas near Mount Arafat, improved pedestrian routes, and additional accommodation facilities in Mina.
Saudi authorities said thousands of inspection campaigns have been conducted to ensure safety standards and compliance with Hajj regulations ahead of the peak pilgrimage period.
The annual Hajj pilgrimage draws Muslims from around the world and is one of the five pillars of Islam.
