Pezeshkian Expresses Gratitude to Iraq’s Senior Cleric Over War Support

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed appreciation to Iraq’s top Shia cleric, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani, for supporting Iran and victims affected by the recent US-Israeli attacks.

In a message shared in Arabic on X on Monday, Pezeshkian praised Sistani for standing with the Islamic Republic during the crisis and thanked the Iraqi people for their solidarity.

The Iranian president described the senior cleric as a strong supporter of oppressed people around the world and said his position during the conflict reflected unity between Iran and Iraq.

Ayatollah Sistani had earlier condemned the military actions against Iran, urging Muslims and supporters of justice worldwide to speak out against the war and support affected civilians in Iran and Lebanon.

The Iraqi cleric also reportedly sent a delegation to Iran to assess damage caused by the attacks and assist victims and affected families.

Iran says its armed forces later carried out multiple retaliatory missile and drone operations targeting US and Israeli interests across the region following the escalation.
