Residents of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area in Lagos State have received subsidised rams for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration under a community welfare programme introduced by the council authority.
The initiative enabled more than 1,000 beneficiaries to buy rams at N80,000, a price significantly lower than prevailing market rates, where livestock currently sell for as much as N400,000.
Chairman of the LCDA, Seyi Jakande, said the programme was designed to reduce the economic pressure on residents during the Sallah season and provide support for struggling households.
He explained that the intervention forms part of his administration’s commitment to grassroots development and social welfare.
Jakande also stated that only holders of Permanent Voter Cards and Temporary Voter Cards were eligible for the exercise, noting that the policy was intended to encourage electoral participation among residents.
According to him, the council plans to sustain the programme annually as part of efforts to promote community support and strengthen public confidence in local governance.
Some residents praised the initiative, describing it as a major relief at a time of rising food prices and increasing living costs across the country.
