The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has launched an investigation into several tour operators accused of transporting more pilgrims than their approved quotas during the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
According to the commission, the affected operators are also being investigated over allegations of exploiting pilgrims under their supervision. NAHCON Chairman, Ismail Abba Yusuf, directed the Commission’s Central Security Committee to identify those involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged breaches.
The commission warned that any operator found guilty could face disciplinary measures, including the suspension or withdrawal of operating licences. NAHCON said the investigation is part of efforts to enforce Hajj regulations and safeguard the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims.
The development comes as Saudi authorities continue to tighten oversight of pilgrim accommodation, movement, and welfare during the peak Hajj season.
Meanwhile, NAHCON also addressed concerns over meals served to pilgrims after some dinner packages distributed on May 27 were rejected for failing to meet Saudi food safety and packaging standards. The meals were withdrawn in collaboration with Saudi health officials, and alternative refreshments were provided to affected pilgrims.
The commission added that refund arrangements had begun for those affected and reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety, comfort, and welfare of Nigerian pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage period.
