At least 51 people, including two medical workers, were killed in Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon within the past 24 hours, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
The ministry accused Israeli forces of targeting health facilities in the towns of Qalawiya and Tibnin in the Bint Jbeil district, describing the attacks as violations of international humanitarian law.
Lebanese authorities say Israeli military operations launched on March 2 have killed 2,846 people nationwide. The United Nations reports that at least 103 Lebanese medical workers have died and more than 230 others have been injured in over 130 strikes since the escalation began.
Emergency responders in southern Lebanon say they continue to work under constant threat. Ali Safiuddin, head of Lebanon’s Civil Defence unit in Tyre, said rescue workers face daily fears of being killed while responding to attacks.
Al Jazeera correspondent Obaida Hitto, reporting from Tyre, said medical teams and first responders remain on the front lines despite repeated strikes, warning that attacks on healthcare workers continue even under the ongoing ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States.
War surgeon Dr Tahir Mohammed, who has worked in both Gaza and Lebanon, said he witnessed similar patterns of attacks on healthcare workers in both conflict zones.
More than 1.2 million people have reportedly been displaced in Lebanon since March 2. Although a ceasefire took effect on April 16, attacks in southern Lebanon have continued to intensify.
