Iran has presented a new proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, demanding compensation for war damages, removal of sanctions, and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian state media, the proposal was delivered to Washington through Pakistani mediators on Sunday. Tehran also called for the release of frozen Iranian assets as part of any future agreement.
US President Donald Trump reacted sharply to the response, writing on Truth Social that Iran’s proposal was “totally unacceptable.”
Sources quoted by Iranian media said Tehran rejected what it described as Washington’s attempts to force Iran into surrendering to US demands. Iranian officials insisted that any negotiations must protect the country’s national interests and rights.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said talks with the United States should not be viewed as weakness or retreat.
“We will never bow to the enemy, and dialogue does not mean surrender,” Pezeshkian stated on Sunday.
The dispute also centers on the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. Iran has tightened restrictions in the waterway since the conflict began and introduced toll measures for vessels passing through the strait, describing it as part of its sovereign rights.
Washington has rejected any Iranian control over international navigation in the area, while Tehran maintains that security in the Gulf should remain under regional management.
The war reportedly started on February 28 after US and Israeli strikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities and infrastructure. Iran has since launched multiple retaliatory military operations under what it calls “Operation True Promise 4.”
Iranian officials have not confirmed whether new negotiations will take place, but they say future talks must be based on mutual respect rather than pressure or coercion.
