Abbas Araghchi has declared that Iranians “will never bow to pressure” following reports of alleged US military actions near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on X, the Iranian foreign minister accused the United States of turning to military escalation whenever diplomatic progress appears possible.
“Every time a diplomatic solution is on the table, the US opts for a reckless military adventure,” Araghchi said, adding that diplomacy often becomes the “victim” of such actions.
The remarks came after reports of overnight clashes near Iran’s southern coast, including explosions around Bandar Abbas and damage to parts of Bahman Pier on Qeshm Island.
Iranian media claimed the country’s armed forces confronted hostile units operating near the Strait of Hormuz and forced them to retreat after suffering losses.
US-based media outlets reportedly said American forces carried out strikes targeting facilities in Qeshm and Bandar Abbas, though officials reportedly denied the attacks marked the beginning of a broader war.
Iranian outlets also cited allegations that fighter jets linked to the United Arab Emirates may have been involved in the operation, claims that have not been independently verified.
Araghchi further rejected reports regarding Iran’s missile capabilities, disputing claims that the country’s arsenal had been significantly weakened.
The developments come amid renewed regional tensions following months of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States over security and sanctions issues.
Iran has maintained that any future ceasefire or diplomatic agreement would depend on the lifting of what it describes as an illegal US naval blockade.
