Eid-el-Kabir: Nigerian Leaders Urge Unity, Peace and Sacrifice

Governors, lawmakers, and other political leaders across Nigeria have called on citizens to embrace peace, unity, sacrifice, and compassion as Muslims celebrate the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir festival.

In separate goodwill messages, the leaders encouraged Nigerians to use the period to pray for the country, support vulnerable groups, and strengthen peaceful coexistence despite ongoing economic and security challenges.

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, congratulated Muslims in Kebbi, across Nigeria, and around the world, describing Eid-el-Kabir as a time of devotion, sacrifice, and love for humanity. He urged residents to continue living peacefully regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences, stressing that unity is key to development.

The governor also encouraged citizens to assist the less privileged and pray for peace, stability, and prosperity in the country. He further expressed support for Nigerian pilgrims currently performing the Hajj in Saudi Arabia, praying for their safe return.

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, also urged Muslims to reflect on the spiritual significance of the celebration, saying national challenges require both spiritual reflection and collective responsibility. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and cooperation.

In the House of Representatives, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle called on Nigerians to rise above divisions and embrace the values of obedience, sacrifice, and compassion associated with the Eid celebration. As part of the festivities, he also distributed food items and livestock to constituents, especially vulnerable residents.

Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, congratulated Muslims and urged them to uphold the virtues of love, unity, and peaceful coexistence. He also cautioned against allowing political tensions ahead of future elections to divide citizens, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and security.

Similarly, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, called on Muslims to pray for lasting peace and support one another, expressing optimism that ongoing security challenges in the state would soon improve and displaced persons would return home.

Across the country, leaders reiterated that the lessons of Eid-el-Kabir—faith, sacrifice, and compassion—should guide national conduct and strengthen unity among Nigerians.
