Chemical Tank Explosion at Washington Plant Leaves Several Dead, Others Injured

Several people have been killed and others critically injured after a chemical tank ruptured at an industrial facility in the US state of Washington, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred Tuesday morning at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company plant in Longview, about 70 kilometres north of Portland, Oregon. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after an 80,000-gallon tank containing hazardous chemicals suddenly imploded.

Officials said the tank held “white liquor,” a corrosive chemical mixture used in paper production. Multiple workers suffered severe chemical burns and other injuries, with several victims transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities confirmed fatalities linked to the accident, although the exact number of deaths has not yet been released. Fire officials also reported that one firefighter and several plant workers were among those hospitalised.

Emergency responders stated there was no immediate danger to nearby residents, while investigations into the cause of the rupture are ongoing.

The accident comes days after another chemical safety scare in California, where thousands of residents were temporarily evacuated over fears that a separate industrial tank could explode.
