Du‘a Said at the Time of Breaking the Fast (Iftar)

Arabic (commonly used wording):

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي لَكَ صُمْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ، وَعَلَى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ

Transliteration:

Allahumma innī laka ṣumtu, wa bika āmantu, wa ‘alayka tawakkaltu, wa ‘alā rizqika aftartu.

Meaning (Simple Explanation):

“O Allah, for You I have fasted, in You I believe, upon You I rely, and with Your provision I break my fast.”

“Allahumma innī laka ṣumtu” – You declare that your fasting was done only for Allah, not for people or praise.

“Wa bika āmantu” – You affirm your belief and faith in Allah and His commands.

“Wa ‘alayka tawakkaltu” – You show that you depend completely on Allah in all matters.

“Wa ‘alā rizqika aftartu” – You acknowledge that the food and drink you break your fast with are provided by Allah alone.

Overall, this du‘a reminds the fasting person that worship, faith, trust, and sustenance all come from Allah, making the moment of iftar one of humility and thankfulness.
