OPay Explains How Nigerians Can Check Eligibility for FG’s ₦50,000 Monthly Relief

OPay has provided guidelines on how customers can determine their eligibility for the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 monthly cash relief programme for vulnerable Nigerians, while warning the public against fraudsters exploiting the initiative.

The fintech company explained that qualified customers would receive a pop-up notification on the homepage of their OPay mobile application, directing them to the next steps required to access the financial support.

In a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday, November 3, OPay clarified that customers who do not see the notification on their applications are not eligible for the programme.

The company also stressed that it has no authority to determine who qualifies for the Federal Government's intervention.

According to OPay, affected customers seeking clarification or assistance can contact the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) helpline on 0700-022-2222.

The company further warned Nigerians against scammers, emphasising that it would never request customers' personal identification numbers (PINs) or one-time passwords (OTPs) to facilitate relief payments.

It also cautioned beneficiaries against paying agents or clicking on suspicious links, advising customers to verify their eligibility only through the official OPay application or the designated USSD code, 95520#.

The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the Federal Government's N50,000 monthly cash assistance programme, which is being implemented under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, announced on October 30 that disbursement had commenced, with qualified beneficiaries expected to receive ₦50,000 monthly to help them cope with rising living costs and meet essential household needs.

The minister explained that the Federal Government was working with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure that payments were delivered securely and transparently.

Beneficiaries are expected to receive an SMS requesting their consent before the money is transferred directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.

Other approved financial service providers participating in the programme include
ALAT by Wema, MoMo PSB, NairaGram and Moniepoint, alongside OPay.

Their respective USSD codes are *945*23#, *671*0#, *72600#, *955*20# and *557*327#.

The Federal Government has also clarified that Nigerians do not need to complete any application, pay registration fees or engage agents to access the relief programme.

Authorities have urged citizens to protect their banking details, particularly their PINs and Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs), and to contact the official NERSI helpline if they receive suspicious messages concerning the intervention.
