Two people have been killed following an attack by suspected gunmen at a mining site around Kuru Jenta, near the boundary between Jos South and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Friday while the victims were engaged in mining activities.
A resident of the community, Weng Bulus, confirmed the incident, saying the victims were natives of Heipang District.
According to him, “Two persons from Heipang District were shot dead by suspected gunmen at the mining site around Kuru Jenta last night.”
Bulus condemned the incident and urged residents to comply with the curfew imposed by the Plateau State Government.
He warned residents, particularly artisanal miners, against engaging in night mining, noting that movement during restricted hours could expose them to security risks.
The spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, also condemned the killings and called on security agencies to investigate the incident, identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Efforts to contact the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful as his telephone line was switched off at the time of filing the report.
