FCT Police Arrest Suspect for Raping, Impregnating 12-Year-Old Girl

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man identified as Zayyanu Halilu for allegedly raping and sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl, who was later found to be about three months pregnant.qe

The suspect was arrested on October 2, 2026, by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.

According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, officers noticed a tinted navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle parked at the location with its windows wound up. The vehicle was reportedly shaking, prompting the officers to approach and inspect it.

The officers allegedly discovered Halilu sexually assaulting the 12-year-old girl inside the vehicle. He was immediately arrested, while the victim was rescued.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl several times in the same vehicle. Police said he also threatened to harm her if she disclosed the abuse.

A medical examination subsequently revealed that the victim was approximately three months pregnant as a result of the alleged abuse.

The girl is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody. Police said he will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and welfare of children under their care.

He also urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station.
