JAMB to Establish UTME Centre in Canada From 2027

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, where Nigerians living in Canada and other parts of North America will be able to sit for the examination from 2027.

The board disclosed this in a statement shared on its official social media platforms following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.

According to JAMB, the proposed centre will make it easier for eligible Nigerians in Canada and across North America to take the UTME, particularly those seeking admission into Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions.

The board said the initiative would eliminate the need for Nigerians living abroad to travel to Nigeria solely to write the examination.

“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination,” JAMB stated.

The board explained that the initiative was part of its efforts to expand the reach of Nigerian tertiary education internationally and strengthen the relationship between Nigerians in the diaspora and Nigeria’s education system.

JAMB added that the Ottawa centre would create greater opportunities to promote Nigerian tertiary education internationally while providing more convenient access to the UTME.

“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” the board said.

JAMB further stated that it was working towards establishing the Ottawa examination centre, which is expected to commence operations in 2027.

The initiative is expected to reduce barriers faced by Nigerians abroad who wish to gain admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions and provide them with easier access to the country’s university admission process.
