The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has warned its personnel against extortion, abuse of power and actions that violate the rights of citizens.
The State Commandant, Olatunde Maku, issued the warning on Monday while addressing personnel during the command’s muster parade at its headquarters in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Maku said the command would not tolerate any form of misconduct, high-handedness, indiscipline or abuse of authority by its officers.
He urged all personnel to operate strictly within the Corps’ standard operating procedures and in accordance with existing laws.
“All operatives must operate within the Corps’ standard operating procedures and in line with extant laws. No officer is permitted to act in a way that erodes public trust or tarnishes the image of the Corps,” Maku said.
He warned that personnel found guilty of indiscipline, misuse of authority or infringement on the fundamental rights of members of the public would face disciplinary action in line with established regulations.
The commandant also directed heads of departments and units, area commanders and divisional officers to ensure effective supervision of their respective jurisdictions and enforce full compliance with operational guidelines.
Maku stressed that the powers given to NSCDC officers must be exercised with professionalism, civility and respect for human rights.
“The conduct of every officer is a reflection of the entire Corps,” he said, urging personnel to remain disciplined, accountable and friendly to members of the public.
He added that the Corps must continue to justify the confidence placed in it by Nigerians through exemplary and professional service delivery.
The NSCDC’s warning comes amid broader concerns over the conduct of security personnel and the need to protect citizens’ rights while carrying out security operations.
