Israeli forces have killed at least one Palestinian and injured several others in separate incidents across the occupied West Bank, amid a recent rise in violence in the territory.
On Monday, October 5, Israeli troops opened fire on a vehicle carrying three Palestinians near Bani Naim, east of Hebron. Palestinian authorities identified the man killed as 38-year-old Hossam Alaa al-Din Abdul Jabbar Walad Ali. They said two other Palestinians were seriously injured and that Israeli forces withheld the victim’s body.
The Israeli military claimed the vehicle had been driven suspiciously and had rammed a military vehicle. It said soldiers opened fire after the car accelerated towards and struck the military vehicle.
In another incident near Ramallah, Israeli forces were deployed following reports that a vehicle had been set on fire and that two Palestinians, including one allegedly carrying a knife, were in the area.
The Israeli military said one Palestinian was “neutralised by an Israeli civilian”, while Palestinian authorities reported that Ahmad Mazen Kahla was critically injured by Israeli gunfire.
Meanwhile, Palestinian officials said Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians in the Imriha area, southwest of Jenin, injuring three people. The Palestinian Red Crescent said its medical teams treated the victims and transported them to hospital.
Local sources reported that one Palestinian suffered a broken leg, another sustained a hand injury, while an elderly man was beaten and pepper-sprayed.
The incidents come as tensions continue to rise in the occupied West Bank ahead of Israel’s elections later this month.
According to the Palestinian Colonisation and Wall Resistance Commission, 66 Palestinians have been killed in at least 14,742 attacks in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since October 2023.
The commission also said the attacks have damaged or destroyed more than 147,000 trees, including over 100,000 olive trees, through uprooting, burning, poisoning and other forms of destruction.
