The Founder and Managing Director of TAJBank Limited, Hamid Joda, has been named the Islamic Banker of the Year 2026 by the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA).
Joda received the award at GIFA’s 16th annual awards ceremony held in the United Kingdom. TAJBank was also honoured with the GIFA Championship Award for Digital Banking 2026.
According to GIFA Chairman, Prof. Humayon Dar, the awards followed a detailed assessment of distinguished nominees in the respective categories. He said the committee selected Joda and TAJBank based on factors outlined in the organisation’s award methodology.
Joda was represented at the ceremony by TAJBank’s Chief Compliance Officer, Dr Muhammad Kabir Muhammad.
Speaking on the recognition, Joda said the award represented a renewed commitment to strengthening Islamic banking in Nigeria and expanding access to TAJBank’s products and services.
He attributed the recognition to the collective efforts of TAJBank’s board, management, staff and customers, while also appreciating the bank’s regulators and shareholders.
Joda, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, has more than 26 years of banking experience covering deposit and Islamic banking operations.
He has previously received several recognitions, including the Most Promising Banker of the Year Award at the 2023 Global Islamic Finance Awards in Dakar, Senegal, and the Islamic Personality of the Year Award at the 2023 African International Conference of Islamic Finance in Abuja.
TAJBank said the latest awards further recognise its contribution to the development of Islamic banking and digital financial services in Nigeria.
