The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, Tijjani Murtala, has presented cheques totaling ₦25,960,848.75 to the families of 25 police officers who died while in active service.
The cheques were presented on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during a ceremony held at the Jigawa State Police Command Headquarters in Dutse.
According to the commissioner, the payments were benefits under the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme of the Nigeria Police Force.
Murtala expressed sympathy and solidarity with the families, acknowledging the sacrifices made by the deceased officers in the service of the nation.
He said although no financial compensation could replace the lives of the fallen officers or completely ease the pain of their loss, the gesture demonstrated the police force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
The commissioner assured the beneficiaries that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to support families of deceased personnel through available welfare schemes and ensure that the sacrifices of the fallen officers remain remembered and honoured.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Yusuf Muhd Tsoho thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police for the support, describing the gesture as a demonstration of institutional responsibility and concern for the families left behind.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased officers and strength for their families.
