Israeli Forces Arrest 53 Palestinians in West Bank Raid

Israeli forces have arrested at least 53 Palestinians during a military raid in the town of Biddu, northwest of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank.

The raid began early Monday, September 21, 2026, following the arrest of a Palestinian man suspected of shooting and killing an Israeli settler near Halamish on Sunday.

According to Palestinian officials, the detainees are being held at an interrogation centre established inside a house seized by Israeli forces. Biddu Mayor Nazmi Mansour said soldiers had also raided homes and turned several properties into detention centres.

Schools, businesses and government offices in the town have reportedly remained closed as Israeli troops conduct searches and field interrogations.

Mansour also alleged that some residents were assaulted during the raids, while many Palestinians remained inside their homes amid heightened fear and tension.

The Israeli military said the suspected attacker had opened fire at vehicles near Halamish before being wounded and arrested at a hospital in Ramallah.

The raid comes amid increased Israeli military and settler-related violence in the occupied West Bank. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), more than 1,330 settler-related attacks against Palestinians were recorded between January and late July 2026.

Al Jazeera also reported that tensions have intensified ahead of Israel's October 27 election, with Palestinian residents and local officials expressing concern over the growing military operations in the West Bank.
