Iran’s Foreign Ministry has rejected what it described as “baseless” allegations made by Colombia, saying the accusations violate the principle of mutual respect and undermine the interests of both countries.
In a statement issued on Friday, September 25, 2026, the ministry criticized Colombia’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with Iran, noting that the two countries had maintained diplomatic ties for more than five decades.
Iran said the allegations presented by Colombia as justification for cutting diplomatic relations were neither “justified nor logical,” and claimed that the decision was influenced by Israel and the United States.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also accused Colombia of being affected by drug-trafficking networks and criticized Bogotá for making accusations related to terrorism and narcotics.
The ministry referred to the seizure of 55 kilograms of pure Colombian cocaine in Tehran in September, describing it as one of the latest cases of transnational drug trafficking involving a network allegedly connected to influential Colombian individuals.
Iran called on Colombian authorities to cooperate through international legal channels to identify those responsible for trafficking the cocaine and other similar shipments.
The statement followed Colombia’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with Iran, which took effect on September 19. Colombia said the move was based on national security concerns and alleged that the Iranian government had links to groups it described as threatening Colombia’s security.
Colombia also designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
Iran said it would take measures to protect its national interests in response to what it called Colombia’s “unjustified and hostile approach.”
