GTCO Assets Rise to N18.6tn, Shareholders’ Funds Hit N3.3tn

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) has reported a profit before tax of N603.03 billion for the six months ended June 30, 2026.

The company disclosed this in its audited consolidated and separate financial statements submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Group and the London Stock Exchange.

GTCO said the performance was driven mainly by growth in interest and trading income, which increased by 7.5 per cent and 24.7 per cent, respectively, year-on-year.

However, a N46.2bn fair value loss affected the overall performance, limiting growth in profit before tax to 0.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2025.

The group’s total assets increased to N18.6tn, while shareholders’ funds rose to N3.3tn by the end of June 2026. Its capital adequacy ratio stood at 34.9 per cent at group level and 29.2 per cent for the bank.

GTCO also reported an improvement in asset quality, with International Financial Reporting Standard 9 Stage 3 non-performing loans standing at 3.5 per cent at the bank level and 4.6 per cent at group level.

The group’s cost of risk declined significantly to 0.6 per cent, compared with 2.2 per cent during the corresponding period.

Meanwhile, the net loan book increased marginally from N3.13tn in December 2025 to N3.15tn in June 2026, while customer deposits grew by 10.3 per cent, from N12.87tn to N14.19tn.

GTCO Group Chief Executive Officer, Segun Agbaje, said the results reflected the strength of the company’s balance sheet and its expanding operations beyond traditional banking.

He said the group would continue to focus on disciplined growth, while using digital services to expand its banking, payments, pension and funds management businesses.

GTCO recorded a 35.9 per cent pre-tax return on average equity, a 6.6 per cent pre-tax return on average assets, and a 31.5 per cent cost-to-income ratio during the period.

The holding company operates banking and non-banking businesses across Africa and the United Kingdom, including payments, fund management and pension administration.
