EFCC Recovers, Returns N84m to Edo Businessman in Land Fraud Case

The Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned ₦84 million to an Edo State businessman, Ekhahon Abraham, after recovering the money from a woman, Anita Eborome.

The EFCC disclosed this in a statement posted on its X account on Friday.

According to the commission, Abraham had paid Eborome ₦84 million for a parcel of land measuring 115ft by 135ft in a community in Edo State.

After making the payment, Abraham reportedly constructed a perimeter fence on the property. However, the fence was later demolished by a man who claimed to be the rightful owner of the land.

The businessman subsequently requested a refund from Eborome but, according to the EFCC, she became evasive, prompting him to petition the commission.

During its investigation, the EFCC discovered that Abraham had transferred the money to Eborome, who allegedly diverted it for her personal use.

Presenting the recovered funds to Abraham, the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Deputy Commander Sa’ad Hanafi, said the commission would continue to perform its duties professionally and prevent fraudsters from benefiting from illicit activities.

The ₦84 million was handed over to Abraham in the form of a bank draft.
