Yemen’s government says Houthi forces have launched a series of missile and drone strikes on the government-held city of Marib, hitting residential areas and causing injuries and damage to homes, vehicles and other property.
Marib provincial authorities said the Houthis fired four ballistic missiles and four drones at the city on Saturday. A fifth ballistic missile later struck the area, injuring one person, while a sixth missile was launched towards Marib overnight.
Officials described the attacks as an escalating assault that threatens civilians, internally displaced people and residential neighbourhoods.
Marib is home to more than two million internally displaced Yemenis, making it the largest displacement centre in the country.
The latest attacks come amid a sharp escalation in fighting across Yemen. Government forces also reported clashes with Houthi fighters near Taiz, claiming that drone strikes killed several fighters, including field commanders.
The renewed violence follows Houthi attacks earlier this month that killed at least 30 government soldiers, in what was described as the deadliest single episode of the conflict in years.
The United Nations has warned that Yemen faces its highest risk of returning to full-scale war since the UN-brokered truce in April 2022, as fighting intensifies on several fronts.
