Wike: “My job is to give opposition leaders high blood pressure”

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike says his role in the current political contest is to keep opposition leaders under pressure and prevent them from feeling comfortable.

Wike made the statement on Friday while speaking to journalists during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja.

Discussing the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, Wike said the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had made it difficult to identify a strong opposition party.

He said his priority was not to make opposition leaders comfortable but to defeat them politically.

> “My business is to make them not feel well all the days because they will be having high blood pressure. Yes, that’s my job.”

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a PDP member, has remained at odds with several opposition figures amid the party’s ongoing political crisis.

He also dismissed concerns about how former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi might react to recent political developments.

Wike said: “How Atiku feels, how Obi feels, it does not give any headache. If I know how they feel now, I will add more crisis for them.”

He added that political contests are about defeating opponents thoroughly rather than making them feel comfortable.
