The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) says approximately 300 children have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was announced on October 10, 2025, averaging one child death per day over the past 300 days.
In a statement released on Thursday, UNICEF said hundreds more children have been injured during the same period and urged all parties involved in ongoing peace efforts to turn commitments into concrete action to protect civilians.
UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Edouard Beigbeder, said a ceasefire that continues to claim children's lives is failing to provide the protection they were promised.
The agency said many families remain confined to limited areas of the Gaza Strip, living among damaged buildings and inadequate sanitation while facing shortages of clean water, healthcare and essential services. It also warned that malnutrition, disease and a lack of medical equipment continue to threaten children's lives.
According to Gaza health authorities, more than 73,300 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began in October 2023. UNICEF estimates that over 58,000 children have lost one or both parents, while more than one million children require protection and psychosocial support.
The agency also highlighted the long-term impact of the conflict on children's education and mental well-being, noting that repeated displacement and limited access to schools have disrupted learning for an entire generation.
UNICEF welcomed recent diplomatic efforts aimed at ending hostilities and expanding humanitarian assistance but stressed that the success of any agreement will depend on whether the violence ends, aid reaches those in need, and essential services such as hospitals and water systems are restored.
The organization recently delivered more than 600 pallets of school supplies and hygiene items to Gaza ahead of the expected start of the new school year.
