Two Nigerian Women Arrested in India Over N380m Cocaine Seizure

Two Nigerian women have been arrested by railway police in Delhi, India, after authorities allegedly seized 2.28 kilograms of cocaine valued at approximately N380 million.

The suspects, identified as 43-year-old Chikanso James and 41-year-old Happiness Okoye, were arrested during a police patrol at Platform One of Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.

According to Indian authorities, the women reportedly aroused suspicion because of their conduct, leading officers to search them under the country’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Police said 11 packets containing suspected cocaine were recovered from James. The seized substance was later examined by crime team officers and forensic experts, who reportedly confirmed that it was cocaine.

Investigators believe the drugs may be connected to an interstate trafficking network operating between Mumbai and the Delhi-NCR region.

Police said James told investigators that she had collected the consignment from Vikaspuri. Authorities are now working to identify other people allegedly involved in the network and trace its financial and supply routes.

Following their arrest, James was remanded in police custody, while Okoye was placed in judicial custody as investigations continue.
