President Bola Tinubu has given a newly constituted committee 90 days to develop a five-year strategic defence cooperation plan aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
The committee includes the National Security Adviser, the two Ministers of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, all Service Chiefs, the Directors-General of the DSS and NIA, and the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security.
According to Idris, the plan will focus on national threat assessments, stronger coordination among security and intelligence agencies, and improved military cooperation to address emerging threats.
The Federal Executive Council also approved the direct purchase of 600 four-bedroom terrace duplexes in Abuja for members of the Armed Forces.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe, said the latest approval brings the total number of housing units approved for military personnel to 2,656 out of the 10,000 units targeted by the Federal Government.
The government says the housing programme is part of efforts to improve the welfare of security personnel while providing affordable homes for Nigerians.
Rabe added that government housing projects are being subsidised to reduce the impact of rising construction costs, with some houses being sold for between ₦8 million and ₦9 million depending on location.
