Tinubu Charges APC Campaign Council to Secure 2027 Victory

President Bola Tinubu has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to work tirelessly to defeat what he described as forces seeking to take Nigeria backwards ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.

The APC announced the composition of its campaign council on Saturday, with President Tinubu serving as chairman. Former Zamfara State Governor and serving Senator, Abdulaziz Yari, was appointed Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma became Secretary.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were named vice chairmen, while several senior party officials and government figures were assigned responsibilities across various directorates.

Speaking to members of the council, Tinubu said the APC had fulfilled its campaign promises and placed Nigeria on a path toward economic progress. He urged members to highlight the administration’s achievements and convince Nigerians to support the party.

The President also directed campaign leaders to reach out to APC members who were not formally included in the council but could contribute to the party’s efforts.

Yari, who represents Zamfara West in the Senate, has accepted his appointment as Director-General. He thanked Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence placed in him and pledged to run the campaign with discipline, unity and respect for Nigerians.

He described the campaign as an opportunity to engage Nigerians across states, languages and religious backgrounds on the future of the country.

Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) criticised the composition of the APC campaign council, describing it as a “rehabilitation centre” for individuals facing unresolved corruption allegations.

The ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, particularly questioned the inclusion of former Humanitarian Affairs Minister Betta Edu and former NSITF Chairman Ngozi Olejeme.

The opposition party demanded clarification on whether corruption-related cases involving the individuals had been resolved, arguing that the 2027 election would serve as a referendum on Tinubu’s performance during his first three years in office.
