The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged baby factory in the Mowe area of the state, rescuing two pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects.
Police said the operation took place on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, following intelligence about alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
The rescued women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant. The four rescued children comprised two boys and two girls.
The six suspects arrested included five individuals and an attending nurse, according to the police. Investigators later visited a hospital in the Mowe area where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20. However, the whereabouts of the newborn could not be established, leading to the nurse's arrest.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation. Police said they would work to locate the missing newborn and determine the full extent of the alleged syndicate's activities.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police.
The development comes months after another alleged baby factory was uncovered in Lagos, where 18 pregnant women and 10 children were reportedly rescued.
