Sokoto State Police Command says it has killed two suspected bandits, arrested several suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition and 17 stolen motorcycles in recent operations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Hayatullah Shaffa, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the command’s security operations.
According to him, police and other security operatives engaged bandits who attempted to attack Ndankaradu village on August 15. The attackers reportedly fled into a nearby forest after sustaining gunshot wounds.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and 54 rounds of ammunition.
The police also arrested members of a suspected motorcycle theft syndicate and recovered five stolen motorcycles and a locally fabricated pistol. A separate investigation led to the recovery of another 12 stolen motorcycles, bringing the total recovered to 17.
The command also announced the arrest of a suspected bandit, Abdullah Habuba, alias Osho, who allegedly confessed to being a key member of a kidnapping syndicate operating in Gwadabawa, Bodinga and other parts of Sokoto State.
In another operation, police rescued a 10-year-old boy, Mohammed Sofianu, who was allegedly abducted in Tangaza Local Government Area. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Shaffa said investigations were ongoing and that efforts were being made to arrest other suspects still at large.
The commissioner warned criminals and buyers of stolen motorcycles that the police would continue to pursue them, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
