The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has warned job seekers and members of the public against fraudulent employment letters and scammers falsely claiming to offer recruitment opportunities at the commission.
The commission said it had received reports of fake and AI-generated employment letters bearing the names of individuals who are not known to the organisation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the NUPRC Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, the commission also disclosed that some fraudsters had been demanding money from unsuspecting Nigerians while claiming they could help them secure jobs at the agency.
The NUPRC said the activities of the suspected fraudsters had been reported to relevant law enforcement authorities for investigation.
The commission urged members of the public to be cautious and verify employment-related information before responding to any offer or making payments.
It stressed that there is currently no recruitment exercise ongoing at the NUPRC.
The commission added that whenever recruitment is approved, the process would be conducted strictly in accordance with existing laws and government regulations.
The NUPRC therefore advised job seekers to be wary of individuals requesting money or presenting suspicious employment documents purportedly issued by the commission.
Members of the public are encouraged to rely only on official NUPRC channels for authentic information about future recruitment exercises.
