The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated Nigeria's first indigenous female neurosurgeon, Dr. Salamat Ahuoiza Aliu-Ibrahim, following her appointment as the Medical Director of a children's hospital in the United States.
In a statement issued in Abuja, NiDCOM Chairman/CEO Abike Dabiri-Erewa described the appointment as a remarkable achievement that reflects the excellence and global impact of Nigerians living abroad. She said Dr. Aliu-Ibrahim's success serves as an inspiration to young Nigerians, especially girls aspiring to careers in medicine.
Dabiri-Erewa noted that the appointment demonstrates that excellence is not limited by gender, race, or religion. She praised Dr. Aliu-Ibrahim for her dedication and professionalism, adding that her accomplishment is a source of pride for Nigeria.
She also encouraged young Nigerians to remain committed to hard work, integrity, and excellence, stressing that these qualities will always open doors to greater opportunities.
While celebrating the achievement, the NiDCOM boss expressed concern over the continued migration of highly skilled Nigerian healthcare professionals abroad. However, she said the Federal Government is implementing measures to improve the welfare, remuneration, and working conditions of medical personnel in a bid to reduce brain drain and strengthen the country's healthcare system.
Dabiri-Erewa wished Dr. Aliu-Ibrahim success in her new role and reaffirmed NiDCOM's commitment to recognizing Nigerians in the diaspora whose achievements continue to enhance the country's global reputation.
