Katsina United Deny Reports That Dead Player Regained Consciousness at Mortuary

Katsina United have dismissed reports that their player, Chinedu Ozor, regained consciousness after being pronounced dead following his collapse during a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes in Katsina.

Ozor collapsed during the match at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium and later died despite efforts to save his life.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the club clarified that reports claiming the player regained consciousness at the mortuary were false.

“We have seen reports claiming that Chinedu later regained consciousness back to life. We understand that people desperately wanted this to be true. We all did. But sadly, those reports are not true,” the club said.

According to Katsina United, the confusion arose after Ozor’s family requested further medical confirmation before his body was taken to the mortuary.

The club explained that the family, devastated by the incident and still hoping for a different outcome, sought additional confirmation of his condition. However, it stressed that this should not be interpreted as evidence that the player had survived.

Katsina United stated clearly that Ozor did not regain consciousness and had passed away.

The club appealed to the public to stop spreading rumours and unverified information about the player's condition.

It also urged people to respect the privacy of Ozor’s family, teammates and friends as they mourn his death.

The club said the family needs compassion rather than speculation, while Ozor deserves to be remembered with dignity.

“Please let us allow him to rest,” Katsina United concluded.
