A 34-year-old man, identified as Rabiu Mukthar, has allegedly opened fire at a wedding ceremony in Kano State, killing one person and injuring three others.
The incident reportedly occurred in Tudun Yola Quarters after Mukthar became upset by loud music being played at the wedding.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident. He said the suspect allegedly came out of his residence and fired a pump-action gun sporadically at people attending the wedding.
Police officers responded after receiving information about the attack and arrested Mukthar along with another suspect. The firearm allegedly used in the incident was also recovered.
According to the police spokesperson, Mukthar told investigators that the organisers had not consulted him before holding the musical event. He reportedly claimed that the noise disturbed his sleep, prompting him to open fire at the gathering.
The two suspects are currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kano State Police Command as investigations continue.
