The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned prospective candidates to be extremely careful when creating their profiles for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry registration.
The board said seemingly minor mistakes made during profile creation could lead to serious complications during the admission process.
JAMB issued the warning in a new advisory video released under its “JAMB Explained” series and shared on its X account on Wednesday.
The advisory, which targeted fresh candidates, specifically warned against errors in names, dates of birth and other personal details linked to the National Identification Number (NIN).
The board advised candidates to carefully verify their information before proceeding with registration.
According to JAMB, candidates’ personal details are obtained directly from records held by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and are not created or modified by the examination body.
The board explained that if a candidate’s name or date of birth is incorrect in the NIN record, JAMB cannot simply change the information after registration.
JAMB also warned candidates not to assume that obtaining an affidavit would automatically result in the correction of their records with the board.
The examination body therefore urged all prospective UTME and Direct Entry candidates to ensure that their identity information is accurate before creating their JAMB profiles.
The key message from JAMB is simple: Check your details carefully before registration, as mistakes made at the profile stage can affect the admission process later.
