The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed colleges of education across Nigeria to submit the full details of students who were illegally admitted into their institutions for possible regularisation.
The directive follows approval from the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, to consider the regularisation of students who were illegally admitted during the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
JAMB, in a letter to the provosts of the institutions, asked them to provide complete lists of affected students using an approved Excel template. The information must be accurate, complete and endorsed by the respective provosts.
The board warned that institutions would be held responsible for false declarations or omissions in the submitted records.
JAMB said the information would enable it to process the cases in line with the ministerial approval.
The move comes amid ongoing concerns over illegal and irregular admissions by tertiary institutions. Some institutions have admitted students outside the approved JAMB admission process, leaving affected students without properly recognised admission records.
The regularisation exercise could provide relief for eligible students whose admissions were not properly captured in JAMB’s system. However, their cases will depend on the accuracy and completeness of the information submitted by their institutions.
