Iran Rejects US Claims That Strait of Hormuz Has Reopened

Iran has rejected claims by US officials that the Strait of Hormuz has reopened, insisting that the strategic waterway remains closed.

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), which oversees maritime traffic through the strait, said repeated statements by US officials would not change the situation.

According to the authority, the Strait of Hormuz will remain blocked until Iran’s conditions are accepted.

The development follows comments by US President Donald Trump, who claimed that the United States had “total control” of the strategic waterway and would maintain its control.

Iran’s newly appointed Supreme National Security Council secretary, Mohsen Rezaei, also said the strait would remain closed unless Washington changed its position and accepted Iran’s demands.

Rezaei said the United States must end the war, release Iran’s frozen assets, and ensure that the conflict ends across the region, including in Lebanon and Gaza.

He added that other Iranian demands had been communicated to the United States through mediators.

Meanwhile, Iran and Oman are reportedly negotiating the possibility of establishing a new route through the strait. Rezaei stressed that any agreement between Iran and Oman would be separate from the issue of the Strait of Hormuz’s closure.

Iran tightened restrictions on the strategic waterway after joint US-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory, preventing vessels linked to Israel and the United States from receiving safe passage.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major global energy route, making the ongoing dispute a significant concern for international shipping and oil markets.
