Gunmen Kill Two, Injure One in Fresh Plateau Attacks

Gunmen have attacked four communities in Plateau State, killing two people, injuring another and setting several houses ablaze.

The attacks reportedly occurred on Tuesday night in Gwa-Wereng Rim, Kyeng Village in Bachi District, Dorong and Jol Village.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) confirmed the incidents in a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong.

According to the association, Bulus Mwagwong, popularly known as Dikko, was killed during the attack on Gwa-Wereng Rim, while his cousin, Yakubu, sustained serious injuries.

The BYM also said 47-year-old Stephen Dachollom Kaze was killed at Kyeng Village, Bachi District, at about 8:30 p.m.

A resident, Lyop Gabriel, said gunmen invaded Gwa-Wereng Rim at around 9:30 p.m. and opened fire on residents.

At Dorong, attackers reportedly set houses ablaze, destroying property and forcing residents to flee their homes.

In Jol Village, armed attackers allegedly exchanged gunfire with local vigilantes, further increasing tension in the area.

BYM National President Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri condemned the attacks, describing them as a serious threat to the lives and livelihoods of rural communities.

The association called on security agencies to strengthen their presence in vulnerable communities, intensify surveillance and arrest those responsible for the killings and destruction.

It also appealed to the Plateau State Government and other relevant authorities to provide immediate assistance to families who lost loved ones, homes and property.

The BYM urged residents to remain vigilant, peaceful and united while calling for urgent security measures to prevent further violence.

The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, was unavailable for comment when contacted, as his phone was reportedly switched off.
